The NEOVOLC project investigates the Catalan Volcanic Zone (CVZ), an intraplate monogenetic volcanic field in northeastern Spain, where the Western Mediterranean opening interacts with the European Rift System. Despite its significance for understanding the link between magmatism and tectonics, key questions remain, such as the processes controlling magma ascent and storage, the evolution of magmatic systems over time, and their connection to regional tectonics. NEOVOLC adopts a multidisciplinary approach, integrating petrology, geochemistry, geochronology, and structural analysis to explore how regional tectonics influence eruption style and frequency. The findings will enhance our understanding of CVZ volcanism, provide insights into global intraplate volcanic systems, and contribute to volcanic hazard assessment and risk management.
