Research

Our research focus on the petrological and geochemical characterization of volcanic deposits to understand (i) magma plumbing system dynamics (thermodynamics, geochemistry, isotopes), (ii) timescales of magmatic processes (diffusion modeling), and (iii) their role in future volcanic activity. Our research covers pre-eruptive and eruptive processes, mainly in the Canary Islands, La Garrotxa (NE Spain), and Deception Island, but also in Italy, Central Andes, Iceland, the USA, Japan, La Réunion, and beyond. We specialize in monogenetic and polygenetic volcanism, plumbing system characterization, caldera-forming processes, physical volcanology, and volcanic hazard assessment.
